Beginner Artists
This beginner-friendly art class is thoughtfully designed for Kindergarten and 1st grade students. Offering an encouraging space for young creators to explore, experiment, and express themselves.
By the end of the program, students gain confidence in their artistic abilities, develop fine motor skills, and build a strong foundation for future creative learning—all while having fun and expressing their unique imaginations.
Through hands-on activities, children will be gently introduced to foundational artistic building blocks, including:
The Elements of Art
(Line, shape, color, texture, value, form, and space)
The Principles of Design (Balance, contrast, emphasis, movement, pattern, rhythm, and unity)
Foundational Art Vocabulary & Concepts
Lessons incorporate age-appropriate language and ideas that build visual literacy, creative confidence, and problem-solving skills.
Each session begins with a dedicated ceramics week, giving students the exciting opportunity to work with clay, build simple forms, and explore the basics of three-dimensional art.
After ceramics, the class continues with a rotating selection of engaging media, such as:
Acrylic and watercolor painting – Experimenting with color mixing, brush techniques, and expressive mark-making
Drawing with a variety of materials – Including colored pencils, pastels, crayons, and markers
Collage and mixed media – Layering textures, shapes, and found materials to create imaginative compositions
Ceramic sculpture – Revisiting clay to build confidence with form and structure
Art with recycled and found objects – Encouraging creativity, resourcefulness, and environmental awareness
Intermediate Artists
In this intermediate art class, students will dive deeper into the creative process, strengthening their foundational skills while expanding their personal artistic voice.
By the end of the program, students will have gained confidence in their abilities, broadened their technical skills, and developed a deeper understanding of their own creative process—leaving each session with artwork that reflects their growth, imagination, and individuality.
Each session is thoughtfully designed to spark imagination, build confidence, and encourage expressive, hands-on exploration in a supportive and inspiring environment.
As young artists move beyond the basics, they will continue to engage with the Elements of Art and Principles of Design, applying them with increasing intention. Students will be guided to make thoughtful artistic choices, experiment courageously, and develop their own style.
Through a balance of structured lessons and some open-ended projects, they’ll learn how to plan, revise, and reflect—important skills for both art-making and creative problem solving.
Each session begins with a dedicated ceramics week, giving students the opportunity to work with clay at a deeper level. They’ll explore a range of hand-building techniques, learn how to sculpt forms that communicate ideas, and experience the full ceramics process from wet clay to finished glazed or painted piece.
After ceramics, artists will rotate through a rich variety of media and processes, including:
Acrylic and watercolor painting - Techniques in layering, blending, color theory, and expressive brushwork
Drawing with charcoal, pastels, pens, and pencils - Developing observational skills, shading, texture, and dynamic mark-making
Collage and printmaking -Exploring composition, texture, pattern, and creative experimentation with stamps, stencils, and monoprints
Ceramic sculpture & advanced hand-building -Creating both functional and decorative pieces with attention to detail and craftsmanship
Mixed media creations - Combining traditional materials with inventive, unexpected objects to build complex, textured artworks
Art with recycled and found objects - Encouraging resourcefulness and creativity while reinforcing the importance of sustainability
Advanced Artists
This dynamic advanced class is designed for seasoned, curious, motivated young artists with five or more years of art study who are ready for a challenging, deeper dive into their art experience.
By the end of the program, students will have created a significant artwork that showcases not only their skills, but their voice, imagination, and dedication as young artists—ready to take on even greater creative challenges.
This advanced studio class supports students who are ready to take their creativity to the next level. At this stage, artists begin to push boundaries, explore personal interests, and approach their art-making with greater independence and intention.
Unlike our Beginners and Intermediate classes, this class follows a different format:
Students will spend the entire four week session focused on one ambitious, multi-step, sometimes collaborative, project.
This large-scale work will challenge them to plan thoughtfully, experiment boldly, and problem-solve throughout the creative process, while developing their own unique style.
Students will deepen their understanding of art concepts while continuing to engage with the Elements of Art and Principles of Design in more thoughtful and nuanced ways.
In this course, students will:
Strengthen drawing, painting, and sculpting techniques
Explore more complex materials, tools, and mixed media approaches
Tackle layered, multi-step projects with intention and creativity
Begin to reflect on their work and artistic growth through discussion and critique
Media and processes may include a mixture of medias including but not limited to:
Acrylic and watercolor painting
Ceramics
Printmaking
Collage
Mixed media projects using both traditional and unconventional materials.
Art with recycled and found objects
Charcoal, pastels, watercolor pencils, and graphite pencils
Guided Open Studio
This open studio course is designed for older, seasoned artists with eight or more years of art study who are ready to take full creative ownership of their artwork.
This open studio class is ideal for preteens and teens preparing portfolios, pursuing personal creative goals, or simply looking for a space to experiment and grow.
With guidance from experienced instructors, students will conceptualize, design, and develop independent art projects that reflect their personal interests, passions, and artistic vision.
In this flexible studio environment, young artists have the freedom to pursue the media and subject matter that inspire them most. Whether they're refining advanced skills in a favorite medium or experimenting with entirely new techniques, students are encouraged to push themselves, think critically, and confidently express their art.
Throughout the course, students will:
Choose their own materials, subject matter, and direction - Allowing for meaningful, self-driven exploration
Receive individualized technical support from instructors who meet each student where they are
Explore and refine their personal artistic style - Developing a clearer sense of identity as artists
Strengthen project-planning and creative problem-solving skills - Learning how to manage multi-step work from concept to completion
Engage in reflective thinking - Discussing their ideas and evaluating their artistic choices along the way
